Program Overview
This initiative is expected to benefit over 100,000 students across Punjab. The courses, which normally cost between $400 and $1,000 through Google, are being offered entirely free to eligible students.
Course Areas Include:
- Cybersecurity
- Artificial Intelligence
- Business Intelligence
Course duration ranges from 3 to 6 months depending on the certification track.
New IT Labs to Support the Rollout
To back this initiative, the government is establishing modern IT labs in 166 colleges across the province, aimed at providing hands-on training, improving digital literacy, and building the infrastructure needed for a more technology-driven education system. A New Performance Monitoring System
Alongside the IT push, a new evaluation system is being introduced to strengthen accountability across educational institutions, including:
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for teachers and principals
- Ongoing monitoring of institutional performance
- Evaluation of public university leadership
Scholarship Program Expansion
The Honhaar Scholarship Program has also been expanded, now supporting 62,949 students simultaneously, with funds distributed in phases and eligibility broadened to include more students.
College-University Affiliations
As part of the same reform package, 36 commerce colleges across 29 districts are being affiliated with 19 public universities, with new BS programs being introduced in Business, Finance, Information Technology, and E-commerce.
Additional Student Support
Further initiatives include electric bus services for students, an expanded laptop scheme, and continued inclusion of special needs and minority students, building on a program that has already benefited over 38,000 students, with more than 142,000 applications received for the next phase.
Academic Performance Snapshot
Recent Grade 8 assessment data showed strong performance overall, with roughly 994,000 students appearing for exams, a 92% pass rate among female students and 84% among male students, with female students notably securing the top three overall positions.
